A walking tour of the city is so much more than the visual! We encourage all our guests to listen and smell the city, use all their senses as we walk about.
In 2013 we had a wonderous client who booked a tour with us and advised that his seeing eye dog would be joining us as well. We had just one other couple that day, so the 4 of us headed off on our normal tour. Kevin and his dog brought a joy and observation of the city to us all, and we learned so much. He knew we had not had many clients with guide dogs, and chose to join us anyway. In fact over the years Kevin has joined us 3 times.
On return to the office our team went about designing a tour for a client that may have little or no vision, and one that we could confidently deliver for less confident sightless clients.
We have set out a route, where we know textures are tangible, where smells will change the mood, where footpaths have fewer steps, and street art is three dimensional. Corridors that are narrow, and wider streets, low rise areas where sun hits the skin. Join us on a sensory alternative where we conduct a safe and respectful walking tour of our city, where storytelling is verbal, and sense of place is tangible.
Please contact us by SMS, +61447868788 or voicemail if you would like to discuss a tour of Melbourne’s Lanes and Arcades.
Tours for visually impaired are generally offered as private tours, but bookmark this page in case we do some for a regular run.
Cities are for everyone, and we look forward to sharing it with more visitors.
