What are they digging up in Melbourne?

Secrets Blog

Visitors to Melbourne might find something surprising over the next few weeks.

As digging for the Metro Tunnel – the new underground train network – has begun, there are numerous archaeological digs happening across the city.

One we walk passed every morning on our way to work is the Swanston street site.

It has been great to finally be able to see through the giant blockade walls, with the introduction of small windows revealing what’s going on inside.

Here we are now able to see a high-vis clad team of workers carefully digging and brushing away layers of dirt in the hope of finding some relics of Melbourne’s past.

Here is a link to MetroTunnel’s information page regarding the dig.

We will keep our eyes and ears to the ground and stay up to date if there are any exciting artefacts discovered.

Stay tuned.
